SEPA Direct Debits (SDD)
How SDD and Reversals relate to PSD2 (AIS)
A SEPA direct debit collection triggers several possible transactions in both the creditor and the debtor(s) accounts. Depending on the bank and the implemented flow, some of these transactions are shown later in AIS PSD2 while others are not. This is ultimately what we would like to describe in this page.
A simple example is a company that submits a direct debit collection to its bank on a given day. Execution date is set for a couple days later, say D-day. On D-day, the bank tries to collect the money from the included debtor(s) and some might not have sufficient balance in their account.
Given this context, and depending on the bank, different things might happen. In the tables below, we describe the situation with some banks operating in The Netherlands. Also, the procedures followed by each bank are not exactly the same for private and business customers.
Please notice that while SEPA partner banks always return the reason code, the way it is done differs between them. In some cases, the reason code is part of the transaction description (e.g. ABN AMRO) instead of being sent in a specific field. For a additional information on the SDD R-transaction reason codes, check the table at the end of the page.
